The following is an overview and guide to how a typical events year unfolds and the major moments to look out for.
Winter
Christmas brings with it private charity evenings, festive galas, special previews and black-tie events, including occasions such as the Winter Wonderland preview nights, the Emeralds & Ivy Ball and WellChild's Christmas at Sudeley Castle. We then move onto the February fashion week circuit across New York, London, Milan and Paris. The winter calendar also kicks off the Awards Season which includes The Fashion Awards, The Grammys, the BRIT Awards and many others leading up to the climax of the Academy Awards in early Spring.
Spring
Spring ramps up the first major international sporting and cultural fixtures of the year. Formula One begins to gather pace across early-season races such as Australia, China, Japan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami and Monaco. There is also Six Nations Rugby, the run in of the Premier League football and the later stages of the Champions League. Awards feature again at the incredibly glamorous Cannes Film Festival, and we are treated to the opening of global tennis, film premieres and more theatre, opera, ballet, exhibitions and concerts.
Summer
Summer is the great British season, including the classics of Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, Royal Henley Regatta, Silverstone Grand Prix, Goodwood, cricket at Lord's and the Last Night of the Proms, all of which take place within a few months of one another.
The wider summer calendar can also include Glastonbury, BST Hyde Park, Wilderness, Houghton, Burning Man, major music tours, international sport and one-off culinary or countryside events. It is the point in the year when sport, society, music, food and travel overlap most visibly.
Autumn
Autumn brings another shift in the calendar, with more film festivals such as Venice, charity events, concerts and international sport returning to the foreground. The season often includes September fashion weeks again across New York, London, Milan and Paris, NFL London games, rugby autumn internationals, major football fixtures, the culmination of the Formula One season, high-profile charity galas, film premieres and cultural openings.
