Speakeasies have become a dime a dozen over the past few years, and West End nightclubs have more or less always been a permanent fixture in London nightlife. However, we have not yet witnessed the lovechild of a speakeasy and a West End nightclub!
Drawing inspiration from Britain‘s most infamous sensualist and sometimes poet- John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester - as well as Fitzrovia‘s decadent Bohemian history, Libertine will feature three separate yet interlinked spaces that redefine the role that a club can play. Guests will be led into Libertine through a mirrored glass walkway. Upon arriving in the main area, one won‘t fail to notice the immense, 50 foot screen on the opposite side of the room, which projects vivid displays of colour and light and synchronises with a digital mirror ball suspended from the centre of the ceiling. The colour scheme is dark and sumptuous, including solid oak tables finished with dripped gold and nodding to the industrial with a slightly distressed sheen. Behind the elevated DJ podium a discreet door leads to an intimate, private VIP room.
A similarly discreet door leads to the Reason & Mankind, which derives its name from Rochester‘s magnum opus A Satyr Against Reason and Mankind. Open from 5pm, this molecular cocktail lounge in powered by mixological wunderkinds Fluid Movement, who have won acclaim for their bars Worship Street Whistling Shop and Purl. The snug and seductive speakeasy is decked out in dark woods, textured belle époque wallpaper and luxurious velvet banquettes.
