It's great revisiting a classic, particularly when said classic has been relaunched to become better than ever. The Rooftop at The Trafalgar St James is one such venue. Perched atop one of area's nicest hotels, it offers peerless views down into Trafalgar Square and out above the adjoining neighbourhoods of Soho, Westminster and Embankment. It's been given an incredible design that incorporates its outdoor spaces to devastating effect.

The Rooftop is spread across two outdoor areas with a glass enclosed PDR named The ROOM and covered corridor bridging the two spaces. The first area that you enter boasts one of the best countertops in the capital, with an eye-level view of Admiral Nelson sitting atop his column. The design is nothing short of stunning - mini bankers lights and marble-topped tables imbue it with Art Deco panach. One the other side there's a much larger section with southern-facing views, a cocktail bar and open-plan kitchen. Both spaces can be covered and are replete with blankets and heaters during the cooler months.

Anyone looking for a rooftop bar in the centre of it all will be hard-pressed to find one that tops The Rooftop.
