Maintaining a good reputation is something that's difficult to do, particularly when said reputation reaches back three centuries. The Punchbowl, however, has managed to do just that, and with its extensive refurbishment, could maintain its reputation for a few hundred years more. Originally built on Mayfair's Farm Street in 1729, the pub has witnessed many things, including the rise of the industrial revolution. Putting such new-fangled trends out to pasture, The Punchbowl offers a more bucolic experience, bringing the countryside into the heart of W1.
This is readily apparent in the redesign, which has favoured 1950s vintage décor in its dark wood Georgian trappings. The upstairs area has been appointed to resemble a gambling den, and uniforms have been overseen by gunsmiths James Purdey and Sons. The kitchens are captained by chef Nathan Andrews, who previously cut his teeth at Petrus and Colbert.
