When it comes to brunch, we hate to say it, but Americans definitely do it better. Todd Enany, Adam Landsman, and chef Jaime Young are three such Americans. They took New York City by storm when they launched Sunday in Brooklyn in Williamsburg in 2016. Now, they've made a similar stir in the pastel-hued neighbourhood of Notting Hill, sending Instagram into a frenzy and garnering pilgrimage-length queues at their Westbourne Grove site. Whilst its forte is indubitably its brunch offering, Sunday in Brooklyn also does a fantastic dinner menu. We popped in to investigate.
The two-story building is everything you'd want from a west London resto, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in lashings of natural light. The mid-century modern design is all very easy on the eyes, with a statement wooden ceiling and enough hanging plants to qualify as a biosphere. We settled in with 'Honeybear on Holiday' cocktails, a curious and complex amalgamation of Plantation 3 star, Montenegro, Sherry, apricot, lime, pineapple, cumin and honey - which whet the appetite and set the tone for what followed.
We kicked off the meal with a pleasing, palate-puckering dish of ceviche - which saw seabass, sweet potato and corn citrus-cured in tiger's milk and stung with a dose of habanero chilli. Like the cocktail, it was an eye-opener. Following this, we enjoyed some smouldering, smoky baby back ribs festooned with charred scallions, hot honey and crispy garlic. If you could plate up America - this would be it. For our mains, we loved the crispy chicken sandwich, dressed with sweet and sour honey, cabbage, B&B pickles and kewpie, luxuriating on a potato bun.
Sunday in Brooklyn is everything you'd want from a, well, sunday in Brooklyn. It's breezy, scenery and delicious.
