Both skyscraper restaurants and Mexican cuisine can be hard to come by in the UK, so our ears perked up when we heard that Madera was launching at the Treehouse London hotel, perched above Langham Place on the Fitzrovian side of Regent Street. The view, as one would expect, was both unique and astounding, boasting bird's eye vistas of Soho, Marylebone, Mayfair and further afield. There's not really anything of this height in the vicinity, making it worth the trip in its own right.
The ownership has built on this strength and created a beautiful eyrie to match the high-flying altitude. Guests enter through a sort of tunnel created from bent bamboo and pine strapping. Natural woods, plywood and the like have been deployed to give the space a rough-cut, edgy vibe. The dial is further turned up with a superabundance of exotic potted plants, hanging foliage, string lighting, woven-basket pendant lighting and DJ decks. If you can, ensure that you find a spot next to a window to watch the world go by below. We aren't overstating how sui generis the setting is.
We were won over by the agave-led cocktails and enjoyed the snacks throughout the evening. There's an extensive menu of margaritas that is worth dipping into, with passion fruit, hibiscus, prickly pear and Thai basil options. We found that they went perfectly with starters such as the tortilla chips with pico de gallo and guacamole, the tostaditos and the pozole.
For great views and great drinks, Madera at Treehouse London is certainly the best option in Marylebone and Fitzrovia.
