Clarette has brought Bordeaux right into the heart of Marylebone. Opened by Alexandra Petit,  heiress to the world-renowned Chateau Margaux, along with enterprising restaurateur Natsuko Perromat du Marais, Clarette is a multi-level wine bar perched on the corner of Blandford and Manchester Street in a three-storey Tudor-façade pile that has been given a sensitive refit to make it amenable to the most discerning drinkers.

Inside, the venue has been split into four separate spaces. During our visit guests rubbed shoulders at a large communal table and along the svelte little bar. Humble bare brick plays off luxurious velvet curtains and chic leather high-tops. Upstairs you'll find more of a homey room, with a cosy curtained-off alcove. There's an outdoor terrace as well as a private dining room for anyone who prefers to do their drinking in the sun or behind closed doors as well as a private dining room which double as a cellar complete with a wine wall.

Our food was quite mesmerising. Pulled pork croquettes with a chive emulsion were a showstopper, rinsed with porcine flavour. They went beautifully with a 2017 Domaine à Deux sauvignon blanc from the Loire. Cured tuna was lashed with a mango and chilli dressing and served with cucumber, coriander and sesame - it was served with an electrifying Argyros assyrtiko from Santorini.

A main of lamb cutlets were served alongside slow-cooked lamb neck, smoked aubergine and a parsley and pomegranate salsa. We padded these out with pitch perfect sides: skin-on truffle and parmesan chips as well as grilled courgettes with basil pesto and aged comte and some wine of course: a 2015 Albadia Retuerta Selección Especial Sardon de Dueri. We wrapped up the meal with a caramelised apple tarte tatin with lacy vanilla ice cream and a dark chocolate bombe with mousse, cherry ripple ice cream and salted caramel.

Equally suited for date night, meeting friends or a casual work dinner, Clarette caters to the oenophile with an incredible line-up of wine.
