Aviary - The City, London

You know we love a rooftop in London. And particularly so when it's sunny and summery outside, even if it's only once in a blue moon. The Aviary is the type of place you'll want to flock to in such a circumstance. Located on the 10th floor rooftop of the Montcalm Royal London House hotel in Finsbury Square, The Aviary offers some of the most vivacious vistas in London at large and the City in specific.

On a warm and clear Thursday evening, the venue was understandably rammed, but large enough to be so without feeling tight or cloistered. The interiors bring the outdoors inside with hanging planters alongside gold drinks cases (paying homage to its birdy theme) with a bright, vibrant style that stands out in the square mile. Outside on the terrace you'll find comfortable lounge seating that wouldn't be out of place in the Balearics. On the off chance that the Great British season are inclement, there's a plenty of heating options to complement views of some of London's most iconic buildings.

We kicked back and enjoyed some beats from the DJ, who was playing house music from a covert corner of the terrace. As he nipped back a pair of espresso martinis, the room got progressively busier, with many people enjoying the modern British cuisine served in the restaurant. The atmosphere was buzzy and energetic, enough so that we stayed on and made our way through a bottle of Villa Anyinyri Reserve Chianti!
