The Savoy's River Restaurant was designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon honours the early day Edwardian and Art Deco aesthetics and has created a room where you can imagine former patrons Winston Churchill, Monet, Katharine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor being right at home. The kitchen has a lot to live up to. After all this is where the peach melba and the Arnold Bennett were created. It does. Whether you're choosing options from the tasting menu or dining a la carte - the Gallic and Asian influenced haute cuisine shines with talent. The dishes exude old-world class lashed with contemporary technique which is apparent in options like the pan roasted turbot fillet with potato terrine, cucumber tagliatelle, rock oysters and saffron miso. It's the small details that really make the restaurant though. The amuse bouche was a delectable chicken terrine executed with flair, myriad hunks of bread are served with smoked salted butter but the post-dinner petit fours really took the cake. As to be expected, the wine menu matches the food in sophistication.
