London is the most cosmopolitan city on the planet with 270 nationalities represented and over 300 different languages spoken. As such, it boasts an equally diverse array of restaurants. Lusin, a new opening in Mayfair, is one of the capital's first high-end restaurants to showcase the delicacies of Armenia. Meaning 'moon' in Armenian, Lusin was first opened in Riyadh in 2011 and offers a sensitive take on traditional Armendian and Levantine fusion dishes, with a menu created by cookbook author Madam Anahid Doniguian and curated by chef Marcel Ravin of two Michelin-starred Blue Bay in Monaco.  The restaurant is spread over two floors with one hundred covers and is nothing short of striking with lofty ceilings, dim and seductive lighting, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The entrance is particularly standout, with three pillars boasting hand-made carvings of Armenian Khachkar - symbols and signs inspired by the 'Tree of Life' and eternity. Armenian tuff stone of various hues has been put to use in created the walls of the restaurant, and the upstairs is a balcony that can also be used as a private dining room. We settled in with cocktails from Giancarlo Mancino and were lavished with a meal for the ages.  Starters were firing on all cylinders, especially marashli with crispy lavash - a soft cheese spread mixed with walnut paste, olive oil and Armenian spices - as well as a sausage roll of sujuk and spices with a lavash pastry. These were padded out with muhammara, fatoush salad and steaming fresh home-baked bread. A mixed grill platter arrived on the table, a mini grill freighted with chicken tavouk, lamb chops, lamb skewers, grilled lemon, crispy tomato and a special Lusin pesto. To put a bow on the meal, we enjoyed honey cake and lemon tart - both traditional Armenian desserts.  If you're interested in trying a new Middle-Eastern cuisine in an opulent setting in the beating heart of Mayfair, Lusin is a perfect option.
