  • Lucky Cat one of Innerplace's exclusive restaurants in London

Mr Gordon Ramsay has ruffled a few feathers in his day and the same applied at his launch of Lucky Cat - he definitely made a splash! It had been a while since the superstar chef touched down in London and we were keen to see what he planned to take over one of his most successful sites - Maze on Grosvenor Square. Inspired by 1930s Tokyo drinking clubs, Ramsay drafted Ben Orpwood of Sexy Fish and Zuma to put together a menu that leans heavily into the robata grill.

The dining room evinces all of the gloss and glamour that you'd expect from a Gordon Ramsay joint. There are plenty of gilt and shiny surfaces, such as an ice cold mirror display on the ceiling that captures your reflection inasmuch as it does the light from the many glass pendant orbs. Chefs make haste behind a cooking island complete with the aforementioned grill and there are three capacious private dining rooms perfect for special occasions with friends, family and work.

We were very pleased with the Asian inspired small plates. Prawn toast was fried impeccably without a hint of oil, then complemented by a piquant sesame kimchi. Pork gyoza was cut through with ginger and served with a spiced black vinegar. Razor clam was given acid and spice from green apple and wasabi, while a tranche of Weeping Tiger USDA sirloin was immersed in a black bean wafu sauce.

All in, we thought the food was very good indeed, and would recommend Lucky Cat to anyone looking for that classic central London Gordon Ramsay experience.
