Stepping into Julie's feels like slipping into the backstage lounge of a 1970s rock-set - its heritage as a Holland Park institution dating from the 1960s is unmistakable. The newly refreshed interior and menu successfully marry bohemian glamour with modern brasserie finesse under chef-patron Owen Kenworthy.
We began with a beef fillet tartare, which was beautifully rich and crispy artichokes with smoked aubergines, a refined take on rustic flavours. The mains followed in equal style: a decadent lobster soufflé and a sole meunière served with hispi cabbage and French fries, each dish paying homage to brasserie classics with a confident twist. Dessert brought the evening to a gentle close with a poached pear resting in crème anglaise alongside crème caramel - simple, elegant, and luxurious.
Behind the scenes, the private dining room is a standout. With its own discreet entrance, cloakroom, and sound-proofed area, the space holds 20 seated or 25 standing for receptions and is equipped with both AV and WiFi - perfect for celebrations or professional events.
Service throughout our visit was welcoming, warm and attentive - and the ambience of the main dining room, with its velvet and wood, tasteful lighting and subdued buzz, allowed for an evening of relaxed conversation and indulgence.
Julie's has long been a haunt for the A-list, and it remains a highly popular destination for discerning London diners. Whether you're seeking a luxurious dinner or a venue to mark something special, this venue ticks both boxes.
