We've long held that Harneet Baweja, his wife Devina and talented head chef Nirmal Save are cooking some of the best Indian food this side of Mumbai and their newest restaurant is no exception. Situated in the new One Tower Bridge development on Duchess Walk, the larger format restaurant means that more people can experience the gastronomical pyrotechnics than at the (excellent, cosy) Spitalfields location without having to queue.

The 60-cover restaurant offers a lot more space to play with. Split over two levels, it's packed to the rafters with industrial accents and Indian grace notes. These include tiled and bare brushed concrete walls, worn wooden tables, wooden wall features, burgundy-hued chairs, booths along the back of the restaurant, a black and off-white large tiled floor, industrial ceiling, spotlights and low hanging lights to make it cosy and casual. There are a few high tables along the window where you can sit to have a drink whilst waiting for a table.

Chefs usually buckle at the "what's good" question as they've put a lot of work into everything on the menu. But generally some dishes are better than others. That's really not the case at Gunpowder, where we've yet to have a disappointing dish. But if we were to name favourites, we'd pick out the following: chicken lollipops madras style; gunpowder aloo chat; spicy venison and vermicelli donut; porzhi okra fries; maa's Kashmiri chops; sigree grilled mustard broccoli; karwari softshell crab; mustard fish steamed in banana leaf; kerala beef pepper fry and the organic baby chicken chargrilled in tandoori spices. So yeah, basically the entire menu!
We really can't say enough about the cooking on display at Gunpowder. And with no queues, reasonable pricing, great drinks and good people behind it, Gunpowder Tower Bridge is impossible to fault.
