Cotidie means 'everyday' in Latin, but as far as we've seen, there's nothing commonplace about this beautiful Italian eatery that recently opened in Marylebone Village. Launched by Italian masterchef (he often hosts the Italian edition of Master Chef) Bruno Barbieri, who has won seven Michelin Stars during the course of his career, alongside fellow Italian Francesco Ortone, Cotidie will showcase a menu of eclectic Italian dishes changing daily in a stylish yet informal dining room.
Opened on the site of what was formerly Cafe Luc, Cotidie sprawls across the grand space and features minimal decoration, lending it a slick and sophisticated atmosphere. Creamy walls are ornamented with clusters of diminutive lampshades and smoky mirrors, and flanked by luxurious brown banquettes. For those more in need of a light snack to wash away the workday, there is an elegant cichetti counter bar named BARbieri, where you can sluice down small plates or pasticceria with a classic Italian cocktail or a refreshing glass of vino.
It's fair to say that the cuisine matches the chef's Michelin-garlanded pedigree, with devastating flavour combinations apparent in starters like the tartare of Piedmontese beef cured in spices and accompanied by a goat's cheese and pistachio fondue or the lightly scrambled egg served in its shell with hazelnuts and Gorgonzola fondue. Mains comprise of lovely classics like the 'Roast Porchetta' style baby rooster filled with duck foie gras and lardo with mashed potatoes or the fillet of gilthead sea bream steamed with seaweed, shellfish broth, broccoli and fried garlic. The wine list, as one would expect, leans ponderously towards Italy yet features a few international options.
For those in need of some weekend relaxation, Cotidie is now hosting a brunch from 11am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday with an extensive menu designed by Chef Barbieri to satisfy cravings both savoury and sweet. Speaking of, don't miss dessert, with dishes like Bruno's Macchiavelli cup-cream with vanilla ice-cream and a fresh cherry compote.
