Want to see the city sights and enjoy a Michelin-level meal while you're at it? We'd usually suggest dining at the top of one of London's skyscrapers, but for the more adventurous spirits, we'd recommend Bustronome. Billed as a 'Voyage Gourmand', Bustronome is a beautifully-finished, fully-kitted double decker bus which seats 38 people. Guests sit in the upper deck dining room, which is particularly inviting, with a veranda offering spectacular vistas and the table settings you'd expect in top shelf restaurants.
When we boarded the vessel we were greeted by Vincent, who did an impeccable job hosting us through the evening, and proffered us flutes of champagne. We took our seats in the light and airy "dining room" under a limpid glass roof which did nothing to obstruct the view. We did a circuit along the Thames along the Embankment to the Shard and then into Knightsbridge and the Royal Opera House and back. Along the way, we enjoyed some seriously accomplished cuisine.
We started with a beautiful crab and artichoke gateau, sprinkled with tobiko in a helium light crab and wasabi sauce. A crispy roll with goats cheese and a beetroot trilogy was tasty as was a starter of seared tuna with carrot puree, girolle mushroom and tarragon sauce. For our main we enjoyed roasted guinea fowl with curcuma and almonds, a warm peach and avocado salad and fondant potatoes. We wrapped up with meal with a strawberry and ginger pavlova with a ginger sorbet.
This really is a top deck experience with high quality and delicious food as well as a real novelty factor. It would be ideal for a date, entertaining relatives or anyone visiting london. Alternatively it caters to those who want a fun night out to re-experience London from a new perspective. For anyone after a novel meal, Bustronome drives it home.
