After thirty odd days of Christmas parties, binge ingesting, mulled wine, family dinners, midnight trips to the refrigerator to make doorstop sandwiches, and it's probably best not to even mention New Year's Eve (don't worry, it didn't happen!), you're probably either so debased from all of the indulgence that you're ready for more (in that case get in touch with us), or you're seriously missing the embrace of your favourite trousers and feeling like something other than a human Stollen cake. If you're in the second camp, we recommend hitting the gym, and we can honestly say that one of the best gyms in the capital is The Third Space.
With two locations in Marylebone and Soho, The Third Space offers the best fitness training spaces in W1, and they cap the membership to ensure that the gyms are never overcrowded and your time is spent effectively. It's not often that you can say this about a place where people go to sweat, but The Third Space somehow evinces glamour, with a clientele that is generally quite easy on the eyes.
In terms of the facilities, all of the equipment is completely top-of-the-line, avant-garde machinery. There's a boxing ring, a cardio floor, a free weights floor, a pilates studio, an abundance of power plate machines, a resistance floor, a retro gym, a swimming pool, a climbing wall, a hypoxic (altitude) chamber, and, for the stout of heart who really want to push their boundaries, table tennis. Jokes aside, no matter how you prefer to reach your goals, The Third Space will have the best equipment for it with the best trainers in the land, and both of the venues are stunning, particularly the flagship Soho gym which is spread over three floors. For those looking for a more holistic approach to health, the Soho branch offers a private medical practice providing a range of orthodox and complementary medical treatments, as well as a spa where you can recover from a fierce workout by enjoying treatments from Payot Paris, Jessica, Xen Tan and GiGi.
During our visit we were lucky enough to have a training session with Richie Kyle, a south Londoner who previously worked with young players at Fulham FC and Crystal Palace and boxed at a regional level. Richie provided the perfect support for an intermediate level of fitness, walking us through some alternative weight lifting routines and circuit training, and finally pushing us to the to the full extent of our abilities without pushing us over the precipice. Combining affability with competence, Kyle proved himself adept at unlocking hidden potential.
