Motcombs Supper Club

Motcombs Supper Club

April 2, 2019 Restaurant

Motcombs Restaurant and Brasserie has remained a classic Belgravian redoubt for French food and fun since it opened its doors in 1972. In 2019, it’s breathing new life into its offering with the Motcombs Supper Club, taking place downstairs from Thursday until Saturday from 6.30pm and featuring jazz Thursdays and an array of DJs during the weekend. Launched by founder Ross Anderson, who has a background in the art world, and his wife Jacqueline, a classical violinist, the project looks poised to bring oldschool charm back to the heart of Belgravia.

London’s Best Neo-Anatolian Restaurants

Yes, it’s a fancy way of saying fancy Turkish. Yes, you can feed a family of twenty for the same price on Green Lanes. But there’s been a surge of excellent restaurants inspired by the Aegean, the Bosphorus, the Black Sea and especially the land in between. The following are our favourites:

Palm Beach Casino - Mayfair

Palm Beach Casino - Mayfair

March 12, 2019 club,

Okay, we know, casinos aren’t usually a place where you want to eat. But we had a super fun evening at Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair. We kicked it off by trying our hands at the tables with a learn-to-play session on the gaming floor, just under a big palm-form crystal chandelier, before heading to the lounge bar for a pair of preprandial cocktails. After Negronis in the velvet- and leather-clad, carmine-coloured lounge, we were brought to the smaller, more intimate restaurant.

Wild Rice - Soho

Wild Rice - Soho

February 26, 2019 Restaurants

Asian food has had a major makeover in Britain of late – with the 90s ubiquitous pan-Asian menu sidelined in favour for a concentration on more regional, specialised cuisines. Wild Rice sits somewhere in between. Launched by two unbelievably young Thai/British citizens, it borrows in equal parts from family recipes and funerary tomes alongside their own playbook of Thai/British twists. Above all, the restaurant is fun, a great place to kick back and enjoy a Chang without a hint of stuffy formality. At 6.30pm on a Tuesday evening the restaurant was already buzzing.

Pi Pizza - Battersea

Pi Pizza - Battersea

February 26, 2019 Restaurants

A sunny Friday afternoon after a members’ party? Pizza with a wound-healing glass of prosecco? For us it was simple maths to visit Pi Pizza in Battersea to stop the bleeding, and due to some excellent service and a novel concept we were inevitably quite pleased. Its particularly circular name hints at the USP of the pizzeria – giant pies split into separate sections so that you can try a few flavours and share with your buddies.

Monsieur Le Duck

Monsieur Le Duck

February 19, 2019 Restaurants

The people of Gascony tend to live longer than the rest of the French (and English). The reason for this is unclear but many posit that it’s down to their duck diet. Aiming to champion the anatine in Britain’s capital, three frequent travellers to the region have launched Monsieur Le Duck on Brushfield Street which will run as a six month pop-up. Offering an excellent no-frills menu serving classic southern French fare, we ducked in to see if it had legs.

London's Best Roasts

London's Best Roasts

February 5, 2019 By Nick Savage Restaurants

As British as British can be, the roast is the clearly the country’s favoured meal for a Sunday. So much so, that it’s the French’s preferred racial epithet for denizens of Albion. Little do they know that over the past few years, it’s been raised to a new art form, one that does British cuisine very proud. Innerplace has helped us curate a list of their top spots in the capital for a Sunday roast.
