Autumn Openings 2018

London's Latest Restaurant Openings this Autumn

The stretch of Autumn spanning the beginning of September to the end of November is customarily when London’s most exciting restaurants open their doors to the public, a public which subsequently clamours to find a way beyond said door. 2018 is no exception. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

Salon - Brixton

Salon - Brixton

September 26, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

The setting in which Salon is located is nothing short of cinematic. Just around the corner from Electric Avenue, tucked into the elbow Brixton Market, the double-level restaurant is as replete with charm as anything you’ve seen filmed in a romcom. The dining area winds around a bar to the first floor. The windows look out onto the covered alleyway and still retain the paintwork from the erstwhile business that occupied the premises (hint: it begins with an ‘S’).

FlavourBastard - Soho

FlavourBastard - Soho

September 13, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

Eschewing all forms of formality, Pratap Chahal went full bore when he named his restaurant. Occupying the former residence of Michelin-starred Arbutus, he had some big shoes to fill, and went appropriately big. FlavourBastard is a thesis statement of sorts. Not only is he bastardizing cuisines to create new and bewildering matrixes of taste and texture, but he is doing it with a brazen attitude that raises two fingers to the subtlety that traditionally typifies dining out in London.

Bala Baya - Southwark

Bala Baya - Southwark

August 30, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

Israeli food has had a massive boost in the capital of late, spurred on by restaurants like The Palomar and Berber & Q, and now Bala Baya. Situated in the buzzy railway arches of Southwark and opened by chef Eran Tibi, the restaurant is an homage to the convivial and communal dining that has made Tel Aviv such a welcoming destination to the international traveller. Bully for us, then, that we don’t necessarily need to purchase a trans-Mediterranean ticket to experience the food.

Tuyo - Shoreditch

Tuyo - Shoreditch

August 23, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

Mediterranean food has recently become one of London’s most popular cuisines. Formerly focusing solely on the northern coast, recent restaurant launches such as Morito, The Palomar and Berber & Q have given equal billing to the southern and western reaches, borrowing equal influence from Turkey, the Levant and the Maghreb. Tuyo is very much in the same vein as these launches, the kitchens will be overseen by Ricardo Pimentel of Salt Yard and his team from El Ganso, La Farola and Gallipoli.

Bone Daddies - Marylebone

Bone Daddies - Marylebone

August 16, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

Bone Daddies set the tone for the ramen revolution that was to follow, so we were excited to pop into their newest opening when it launched on St Christopher’s Place in Marylebone. On a sunny Friday afternoon the pavements were bathed in hot sunlight and most punters who had pulled up had opted to dine al fresco on little plastic stools crafted from repurposed sake crates, which brought to mind similar roadside venues in southeast Asia.

Tea Room at Bun House - Soho

Tea Room at Bun House - Soho

August 16, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

Not long after launching Bun House in the former site of Maison Touareg on Greek Street, husband and wife owners Alex Peffly and Z He decided to launch an underground den in the basement specialising in all things Cantonese. Simply put, the restaurant’s design is a work of art. Orchestrated by He’s interiors studio Five Line Projects, the room borrows from the boisterous 1960s Hong Kong. It feels quite cinematic, as if it could have been plucked from the set of Wong Kar Wai’s Chungking Express.

STK - Ibiza

STK - Ibiza

August 2, 2017 By Sophie Munro Restaurants

Dodging the unpredictable English weather for a weekend, we set off for the white isle to review one of our favourite go-to restaurants in the Smoke: STK Ibiza. Having already paid a number of visits to the London branch we knew we were in for a night of glam, glitz and glitter. It’s already one of the sexiest steakhouses in the Balearics but to top it off it was located at the Ibiza Corso Hotel & Spa along the Marina Botafoch, home to glamorous celebs and the super-wealthy.

Smoke & Salt - Brixton

Smoke & Salt - Brixton

July 26, 2017 By Nick Savage Restaurants

When we first stumbled upon Smoke & Salt when they’d taken over the top floor of Islington’s Chapel Bar, we were admittedly quite enamoured with the affordable haute cuisine pioneered by Remi Williams and Aaron Webster. So, upon being invited to head down to their new location in the shipping container that formerly housed Kricket, we jumped the train down to Pop Brixton with alacrity.

Peyotito - Ibiza

Peyotito - Ibiza

July 19, 2017 By Sophie Munro Restaurants

The ownership of Peyote in Mayfair and Peyotito in Notting Hill have kicked things up a notch with their third high-end resto, opting to make a splash on the white isle of Ibiza. Situated in the stunning Nobu Hotel along the white sandy stretches of Talamanca Bay, Peyotito cooks up an exhilarating experience for culture vultures and glitterati alike. Spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea play well with the hotel’s forward-thinking design. Eduardo Garcia and Adriana Cavita of the Peyote Group have created another successful menu encompassing unique Mexican dishes with a blend of ingredients and spices guaranteed to take the palate on a journey south of the border.
