London's Latest Restaurant Openings this Autumn
The stretch of Autumn spanning the beginning of September to the end of November is customarily when London’s most exciting restaurants open their doors to the public, a public which subsequently clamours to find a way beyond said door. 2018 is no exception. Here’s what you have to look forward to:
Kerridge’s Bar and Grill - Tom Kerridge is arguably Britain’s celebrity chef du jour, with two pubs, two Michelin stars, and one of the most recognisable faces on the BBC’s cooking programmes. This September sees him making his first foray into the capital as a name brand chef, taking over one of its most majestic dining rooms. Kerridge will be setting up shop in The Corinthia Hotel – expect Great British brilliance.
Barrafina, Casa Pastor, The Drop – Barrafina bros Sam and Eddie Hart along with their El Pastor co-collaborator and musketeer Crispin Somerville will be opening not one but three venues in the newly launched Coal Drop Yards in King’s Cross. Visitors will have the option of getting their signature Catalan cuisine at Barrafina, Mexico DF delicacies at Casa Pastor and all of the wine at The Drop. The three musketeers don’t do things by half measures.
Kym’s – Following his wild success and a Michelin star at A Wong in Victoria, Andrew Wong will be broadening his brand to Bloomsberg Arcade with new venture Kym’s. The 120-cover site borrows its name from Wong’s parents’ restaurant in Pimlico which ran for 27 years and will serve the same finessed Chinese food that won him adulation throughout his career.
Two Lights – The Clove Club remains one of east London’s most beloved restaurants and we were equally impressed with Johnny Smith, Isaac McHale, Daniel Willis’s Italian trattoria Luca in Clerkenwell. For their newest outing they’ve put modern American cuisine in their crosshairs with chef Chase Lovecky cooking up a storm at Two Lights – a neighbourhood-style restaurant on Shoreditch’s Kingsland Road.
Berenjak – Almost every eatery launched by JKS has won a Michelin star so all eyes are on Iranian chef Kian Samyani and new Persian restaurant Berenjak, which is to be launched by the Sethi siblings on Soho’s Romilly Street. The menu will lean heavily into Samyani’s homeland with kababs, khoresht and sharing plates.
