London's Latest Restaurant Openings this Autumn

The stretch of Autumn spanning the beginning of September to the end of November is customarily when London’s most exciting restaurants open their doors to the public, a public which subsequently clamours to find a way beyond said door. 2018 is no exception. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

Moon Garden at Untitled - Dalston

Moon Garden at Untitled - Dalston

August 28, 2018 By Nick Savage Restaurants

After visiting Tony Conigliaro’s new restaurant Gazelle in last week, we thought we’d pop back into his Dalston cocktail bar Untitled to visits its new Japanese Moon Garden. Originally celebrated for its cutting-edge minimalist design inspired by Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory, he’s opened a Japanese zen garden-esque terrace in the back. Designed by London-based architecture and design practice SoHo+Co, the space has been built to resemble a single pool of light which takes on a brilliant alabaster hue during the day and is lit by a luminous orb resembling the moon during the evenings.

The Experimental Group have had their fingers on the pulse of high-end drinks and design since the early days of Experimental Cocktail Club. Following our visit to their first London hotel – Henrietta in Covent Garden – we were interested to see how they do things in their home city and weren’t disappointed by Paris. Occupying the confluence of classic grandeur of the 2nd and the hip creativity of the 10th, Hotel Des Grandes Boulevards compiles a laundry list of industry-leading talents to run the show.

Savage Garden - City

Savage Garden - City

August 15, 2018 By Nick Savage Bars

The City has played host to some of the best rooftop bar launches of late and Savage Garden is no exception. Perched atop the 12th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, it’s taken over the erstwhile Sky Lounge to redefine what a terrace bar can offer. Given a thoughtful refurb by Grapes Design, the space is replete with funky graffiti, futuristic pendant chandeliers, slate and stone wall panelling, plush carpets and gorgeous modernist tables hemmed in by velvet-upholstered banquettes and chairs. However the best seats are indubitably on the Wildside Terrace, where guests can peer out over Tower Bridge, The Shard and The Gherkin.

Casa do Frango - Borough Market

Casa do Frango - Borough Market

August 7, 2018 Restaurants

I think we can all agree that summer 2018 has been something else. But nowhere have we felt more on holiday whilst within London city limits than at Casa do Frango. On a blistering hot evening during the final throes of the World Cup, looking past its greenery strewn I-beams through giant true arch windows across to the bordering Southwark warehouse, it would be easy to mistake Borough Market for the French Quarter in New Orleans or, more aptly, the Chiado in Lisbon.

Two of the biggest trends of 2018 have been clean eating and Levantine cuisine and both have come home to roost at the newest outpost of Ceru on Soho’s D’Arblay Street. Founded by Barry Hilton who found inspiration in the cooking of Turkey, Syria, Cyprus, Israel and Jordan, this all day restaurant is a sure bet for people who want to dine on dishes that are packed with flavour yet easy on the hips.

Casa Bonita - Soho

Casa Bonita - Soho

For over a decade, Charlie Gilkes, Duncan Stirling and the Inception Group have been capturing the imaginations of the capital’s revellers with their heavily creative, immersive venues. Their latest pop-up is no exception, leaning into London with a distinctly Latin energy. Named Casa Bonita, it’s located on the former site of Cinnamon Soho above Inception Group’s 1940s inspired cocktail bar Cahoots on Kingly Court. We popped in on a sultry summer evening and were promptly whisked away to sunnier (year-round) climes.

Regional Chinese and particularly dumplings are becoming some of the most feted food trends to grip London’s culinary scene and restaurateur Shao Wei wanted to make sure he didn’t miss out on the action. For years he’s run a glut of critical darling restaurants in Chinatown, including Bar Shu and Baiwei. Taking the place of Bar Shan, Baozi Inn puts northern Chinese kitchen in the limelight, with pride of place going to the bao – little dumplings.

Endo at The Berkeley - Mayfair

July 24, 2018 By Nick Savage Restaurants

You might not know the name Endo Kazutoshi now, but you soon will. 22 years ago the third generation sushi master left Yokohama, Japan to take on an internship with El Bulli. These days he’s buddies with Heston Blumenthal. Having expanded the Zuma brand globally, launched IchiBuns in Soho and ahead of the opening of his own restaurant at the top of the former BBC Television Centre in White City, you can catch him at his exclusive eight-seater omakase pop-up in a hidden room in The Berkeley Hotel
