With all of the pop-ups and secret door speakeasies crowding in from every angle, it can be difficult to get in with a novel idea, but that's exactly what's happened at The Little Yellow Door, located on Notting Hill Gate in the premises of the departed Blag Club. Whilst Victorian gin dens, Prohibition-style cocktail clubs, and even blitz-era booze palaces are paths well-trodden, the proprietors of The Little Yellow Door had a flash of brilliance and created a hidden drinking destination that resembles something slightly more contemporary: a flat party.

Sandwiched between a souvenir shop and a haberdashery, The Little Yellow Door is attended by a man in bowler hat and yellow bow tie who will show you up to the flat. Entering the space feels akin to wandering onto the set of Friends. Bric-a-brac and tchotchkes are there in abundance, including photographs of flatmate's grandparents, fish tanks, board games and garden furniture. The lighting is dim, with films playing on a projector. Music is a mixed bag, running the gamut from The Clash to Outkast to R Kelly, as it often does at house parties.

Menus are written on magazines and drinks are served in teapots, blenders and eggcups. We opted to try The Libertine, with Earl Grey infused gin, lemon juice, gomme and egg white served in a china teacup with a Jammy Dodger on the side. Passion of Christ was a bit more sweet, with Chamomoile infused Belvedere, passion fruit puree and Prosecco. Our favourite, however, was the Desperado, mixed with Vanilla infused El Jimador tequila, apple sauce, apple liqueur, homemade vanilla sugar and lime. During Fridays, dinner comes compliments of Wandering Chef, who create unique and immersive experiences that are as engaging as a game of Twister.

There's a prevalent anything goes ethos at The Little Yellow Door. For anyone interested in a night less ordinary in a quirky and cool environment, this Notting Hill cocktail bar is a great bet.
