Sloane Avenue staple Barts is secreted away in Chelsea Cloisters and does justice to the building's 1930s architecture as a Prohibition-era speakeasy with quirk and attitude that stands apart from the Chelsea pack. Just behind the toilets there's an innocuous door and a bell hanging from the wall. Ring it and you'll be admitted into an incredibly bijoux room with reams of arty bric-a-brac and antiques with modern touches like graffiti thrown in. The waiting staff are decked out in duds like skinny braces and tessellated shirts reminiscent of 1950s fast-food joints and diners that you might see in Rebel Without a Cause. The cocktails are both phenomenal and affordable - highlighted by selections like rhubarb martinis and pisco ponches. Always packed so bookings are vital.
