Hutong at The Shard - London Bridge, London

Perched on the 33rd level of The Shard and adjoining its sibling restaurant Aqua at The Shard on the 31st through a grand stairwell with captivating views of the Tower and the City, Hutong already wears the laurels of a standalone restaurant. The design pays homage to Chinese heritage with beautiful lacquered lattices of carved screens, one of the most cinematic toilets in all of Britain, and views to boot of course. The food served lives up to the promise of the location, with dishes representing the diverse and fascinating cuisines of Northern China. Red Lantern, a crispy soft-shelled crab, is served from a pot of dried Sichuan chillis in a fiery display of culinary prowess, while crispy de-boned lamb ribs tasted unlike anything we've ever tried before, being marinated for 24 hours before being braised and deep fried. One would be remiss not to mention the roast Peking duck, which is cut crosswise to retain its delicious moisture. Everything taken together, Hutong seems like it may be one of the most towering culinary achievements in London for summer 2013.
