The Inception Group stole a page from Jules Verne‘s classic fiction Around the World in 80 Days with its first Mayfair opening, which has been designed to recreate the eponymous adventurer Phileas Fogg‘s Bruton Lane residence with artefacts and trinkets including exotic taxidermy (elephant‘s feet, wall mounted reptiles), a globe which transforms into a punchbowl, annotated maps, a hot-air balloon basket and a rather prepossessing portrait of Queen Victoria presiding regally over the ground floor room. The theatre doesn‘t stop at the décor however. Taking cues from interactive plays, staff members resemble certain persons from the novel in both costume and character. This lends a dramatic flair to the experience of sipping carefully crafted classic cocktails from Mark Jenner, who formerly plied his trade at the feted Coburg Bar at The Connaught. Drink enough, however, and you‘ll be in a fog of another sort.
