Kanaloa is the brainchild of nightclub impresarios Piers Morgan, Nick House and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding and the little sister bar to London clubland titan Mahiki. It bears much in common with its elder sibling - as you access the club by crossing a foliage-fringed wooden footbridge you'll enter a temple to the tiki gods where the atmosphere favours friendliness over the frippery of more uber-exclusive venues.  There's a long bar and grill for more laid back endeavours and a stairway at the end of the room leading down to the club's dancefloor. The music exhumes retro numbers from artists like The Beach Boys and Donna Summer to lend the venue the eternal glow of a Polynesian sunset - they've succeeded in infusing this enclave with the endless summer vibe which is also very much alive in their cocktails. Again, like big brother, they've focused on the quality of the drinks served rather than the quantity and developed some deviously delicious concoctions that would curtail the complaints of even the most hedonistic Caribbean island-hopper. Case in point, the house cocktail The Kanaloa Kula, served in a carved ceramic cocktail and made with Mahiki rum, star anise and pomegranate syrup, topped with vintage cava and an orchid. If you need some summertime in the City grind, wash off the workday here.
